The ‘Why’ Behind the Greenhouse

I woke up one morning at the beginning of June with this thought in my head. Greenhouse. I want to build a greenhouse. I pitched the idea to Mitch and after a little convincing, he was on board. What was it’s purpose? Why are we building this? We brainstormed, planned and saved for months. How big? What materials?

Made from cedar beams and old, white, wooden windows, it will be approximately 14ft x22ft, with 9 foot walls and the ceiling peaking at around 13 feet. The ground will be grass. As of right now, I don’t have any plans to actually grow anything in the ground inside, but my plant collection will slowly build over time!

Mini sessions by Megan Vaughan Photography will now be a yearly occurrence! Spring at the Greenhouse, Fall at the Greenhouse and Christmas at the Greenhouse mini sessions will be announced! The schedule will go out to my newsletter subscribers first, so make sure you’re signed up for that!

The Greenhouse is being built by us, for us. It’s for our family, earthside and in Heaven. To be honest, if we hadn’t had a miscarriage and in the grieving process, developed a love for plants and all that it entails (blogs on both of those subjects coming soon), I don’t think this thought ever would have popped into my head. I like to believe the baby sent me this idea, so in some way, it serves as a memorial. I believe with all my heart that we’re supposed to build it. I can’t wait to see what the Lord does with it.

While the Greenhouse is being built for our family, we’re so excited to share this opportunity with our vendor and photography community as well. Engagements, bridals, boudoirs, seniors, maternity, family… any session you want! We’ve even gotten some inquiries for elopements already, and guess that it will be able to hold about 20 people inside. Stay tuned for our updates on Instagram and Facebook. We’ll let you know when sign ups are open!

This gorgeous watercolor is a concept drawing by the talented Sarah Simon. She brought in the stunning rich green colors I’ve grown to love so much. She even painted in Monster, my monstera plant, peaking out the doorway.

This Greenhouse seriously could not be any closer to my heart, and I know I will cry tears of joy when it’s complete. I can’t wait to run my hands along the windows, get my toes dirty with Max and make precious family memories within it’s walls. Thank you so much for going on this journey with us!!
